What Is a Straight Line Wire Drawing Machine?
The straight line wire drawing machine is used to continuously reduce low-carbon steel wire rod to the required finished diameter using multiple drawing dies and drawing drums. Our machine uses Φ560 mm drawing drums. Each drum is driven by an independent motor, while the PLC and frequency converters coordinate the operating speed and wire tension between different drawing blocks.

Compared with the pulley-type wire drawing machine, the straight line design provides higher drawing speed, more accurate tension control and better stability for continuous production.

Key Components and Features
- Independent Drive System
Each drawing block is driven by a 22 kW, 6-pole motor with independent frequency control. The first block uses a heavy-duty reducer for higher drawing torque, while the following blocks use belt transmission for smooth operation.
- PLC and Automatic Tension Control
The PLC, frequency converters and tension sensors automatically coordinate the speed between adjacent drawing blocks. This maintains stable wire tension, reduces wire breakage and allows each block to operate independently or as part of the complete machine.
- Water and Air Cooling System
The machine uses a combined water and air cooling system to control operating temperature during continuous drawing. This helps maintain stable production and extend the service life of the drums and drawing dies.
- Φ560 mm Drawing Drums
The Φ560 mm drawing drums are made of ZG45 cast steel with a wear-resistant surface treatment. Internal water cooling and external air cooling help control the drum temperature during continuous operation.
- Drawing Die Boxes
Each die box has separate sections for the drawing die and drawing powder. The drawing die section is water-cooled, while rotating die boxes or powder stirring devices can be supplied to improve lubrication.
- Heavy-Duty Welded Frame
The machine adopts a reinforced welded box frame with stress-relief treatment to reduce vibration during high-speed operation. Water pipes, drainage pipes and electrical cables are arranged inside the frame for a cleaner layout and easier maintenance.
How to Determine the Required Drawing Passes
The required number of drawing drums depends on the wire material, inlet diameter, outlet diameter, tensile strength and reduction per drawing pass.
A smaller diameter reduction requires fewer drums, while drawing thick wire rod to a much smaller diameter requires more drawing passes.
